NASAL ENDOSCOPY FOR POLYP ANOSMIA

The picture posted in this blog shows interesting case of a male,45 years of age with bilateral nasal polyps.(see picture)He came to me with complaints of bilateral nasal obstruction and anosmia since 4 months.Do you think that steroid will help the case? No,I think this is a surgical case, but steroid might be given post operatively to prevent recidive polyp.
Let me tell you another case,of a male aged 60 years with bilateral nasal polyps, hypertension and snoring problem.
Surgeries controlled by endoscopy and CO2 laser assisted were done for those patients.
The outcome of these patients were as follows:
-The first case of younger patient was able to regain his smelling ability even in the hospital,he smelled "hospital drugs".
The second case of older patient has to be longer hospitalized to control post operative bleeding.Hypertension was regarded to be important factor in this case.
Conclusion of those interesting cases were as follows:
-Treatment should be done accordingly to individual characteristics of the patients, even if the diagnosis are the same.
